SEREMBAN: Polling has been proceeding smoothly in Negeri Sembilan, at least up to 2pm, when this report was filed.
Both Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional supporters are defying the Election Commission’s call against vote-canvassing at the polling stations, but no untoward incident has been reported. Neither has there been any report of suspected foreigners attempting to vote, as in some other parts of the country.
However, according to workers for the PAS candidate in Bagan Pinang, a few voters complained that they were able to wash off the ink marks on their fingers. The candidate, Ramli Ismail, said nothing much could be done about that.
Both BN and Pakatan supporters were mostly cheerful, but Pakatan supporters outnumbered their rivals and appeared to be more energetic. It is not known whether this is due to discontent in the BN camp over the coalition’s choice of candidates or low morale brought about by the extraordinarily high turnout for Pakatan rallies during the campaign period.
The PAS candidate for the Lenggeng seat, Zulkefly Mohamad Omar, is not likely to cast his vote because he is still recuperating at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. He was admitted there a week ago for a mild stroke and dangerously high blood pressure.
