GEORGE TOWN, May 5 – PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has retained the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat but with a reduced majority of 3,950 votes in today’s 13th general election as compared to his victory in the seat in a by-election in 2008.
He defeated Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mazlan Ismail by a majority of 11,721 votes.
Dr Abdullah Zawawi Samsudin, an Independent candidate in the fray, only obtained 201 votes.
In the by-election, which was called due to the resignation of Anwar’s Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the MP of Permatang Pauh, Anwar won by a majority of 15,671 votes.
