May, 9th- Megastar of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan, who made his debut in Hollywood with Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, is in a state of shock after being appreciated and applauded for his debut performance in the movie by renowned international film critics.
Amitabh plays Meyer Wolfsheim in the Luhrmann-directed adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel.
Big B posted the Variety magazine’s review regarding his role on his Facebook account, “By far the liveliest work in the film comes from two actors with only a few minutes of screen time between them: the lithe, long-limbed newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as gabby golf pro Jordan Baker, and, in a single scene that marks his belated Hollywood debut, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the flamboyant Jewish ‘gambler,’ Meyer Wolfsheim.”To which Bachchan posted, “In shocked disbelief.. No, no this cannot be true..!!!”
Most other critics such as The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy were also positive, describing the film as one that “feels vibrantly alive while remaining quite faithful to the spirit, if not the letter or the tone, of its source”.
