KUALA LUMPUR, May 16- AirAsia India has appointed Mittu Chandilya (photo) as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 1, this year.
In a statement, AirAsia said Mittu had always been a passionate follower of the aviation industry, and his last role was as Principal and Head of Services Practice in the Asia-Pacific at Egon Zehnder.
He took leadership in the travel and hospitality segment where his primary focus was airlines and aviation. AirAsia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Tony Fernandes, said Mittu is an outstanding young man with great entrepreneurial skills.
“He is very passionate about the low-cost carrier business and possesses the crucial understanding on how its business model works. “India is an important market for us.
A CEO of Mittu’s stature and business acumen would definitely help in attaining significant market share and achieve rapid growth in India,” he added. Meanwhile, Mittu said he was looking forward to being part of the dynamic AirAsia family, and most importantly, bring a whole new meaning to the word “flying” to consumers in India.
