The party’s central committee member, Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar, when contacted by Bernama, regarded the appointment of Abdul Wahid, who is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Malayan Banking Bhd, as a continuity of the technocrats in the cabinet lineup.
Prior to this, former Maybank Group president and CEO, Tan Sri Amirsham Abdul Aziz, was appointed a member of the Cabinet, holding the post of a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department from 2008 to 2009.
Abdul Wahid is appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department who is in-charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and responsible for the implementation of the transformation programme.
“I hope the new cabinet can give more benefit to the people,” he added.
Meanwhile, DAP secretary for publicity, Tony Pua Kiam Wee, in his Twitter, congratulated Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar on his appointment as Youth and Sports Minister.
“May you (Khairy) bring Malaysian sports to greater heights!,” he said. Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, in his Tweet, also congratulated Khairy.
“Congratulations YB (Yang Berhormat) Khairy on your appointment as Youth and Sports Minister. New mandate for youth development,” he added.
