KUALA LUMPUR, May 16- Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (photo) has been retained as the International Trade and Industry Minister for a second term, a move widely seen as continuing the aggressive efforts to spur Malaysia’s international trade amid a stiff global economic environment.
Among Mustapa’s major tasks is to ensure continuity in foreign investments to make Malaysia a competitive trading nation by 2020.
Mustapa, 63, won the Jeli parliamentary seat in the recent 13th General Election, defeating PAS candidate Mohd Apandi with a 5,269 votes majority.
The Bachok-born Libran also won the Ayer Panas state seat, beating PAS candidate, Abdullah Ya’akub, by a narrow majority of 47 votes.
An economic graduate from Australia’s University of Melbourne, Mustapa also hold’s a honorary PHD in Law and Commerce, each from his alma mater and the University of Nottingham.
In 2000, the Chairman of the UMNO Kelantan State Liaison Committee, held the Economic Adviser’s post in the Ministry of Finance.
