CHENNAI (Tamil Nadu) May 18- The Tamil Nadu state government has proposed a statue of a mother symbolising Tamil culture be erected in the southern state’s third largest city of Madurai.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa told the Assembly recently that the Tamil Thaai (Tamil Mother) statue will be erected on the lines of the Statue of Liberty in New York, United States.
The statue aims to highlight the culture, heritage and literature of Tamils and is part of efforts to promote the Tamil language.
It is estimated to cost Rs 100 crore (US$18.22 million).
