KUALA LUMPUR, May 22- The government will help improve the performance of public institutions of higher education (IPTAs) to enable local top tier universities to be in the world’s 50 top universities, said Deputy Education Minister II P.Kamalanathan. (photo) .
He said the merger of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education was aimed at enhancing graduate employability.
“We need to help enhance the status and quality of local universities to enable them to be among the world’s top 50 universities.
“At the moment, the best local university, University of Malaya is ranked 146th,” he told Bernama after an interview with Bernama TV (Tamil edition) on the ‘Hello Malaysia’ programme at Wisma Bernama here today.
He said the ministry would also focus on improving the performance and quality of primary and secondary schools.
