PETALING JAYA, MAY 26- PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has urged his party members to continue to oppose electoral fraud that allegedly took place in the 13th general election, saying that this should be the party’s top agenda for the moment.
Speaking at the PKR national congress today, Anwar called the Election Commission a “real cheater” who failed to conduct a free and fair election and implement the indelible ink system as it promised.
Citing a BBC news report, he said EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar was caught on camera snubbing a complaint on indelible ink on the polling day when Wan Ahmad was approached by a member of public on the polling day.
“Wan Ahmad says never mind the ink can be washed away, since nobody would be allowed to vote the next day.
“How irresponsible and incompetent of him to come out with such a statement,” he told some 800 delegates in his winding-up speech.
Anwar said he would lodge a police report next week on the indelible ink he wore on May 5 which washed away the night itself.
“There is no point talking about 14th general election if these electoral frauds are not resolved. Resolve GE 13 first,” he said.
GLCs not party reserve
The Permatang Pauh MP also reiterated that he would not quit politics, saying that BN which had received less popular voters than Pakatan had no right to call him to do so.
“If not because of the electoral fraud, we would have won 60% of the popular votes, as opposed to BN’s 42%. How can a party with only 42% of the popular votes ask the other side with 60% of the votes to quit?”
“Don’t they feel ashamed that after all the slanders they have accused us of, all the media manipulations, talks about Islam under siege and etc, they only garnered 42% of the votes?” he asked.
Pakatan garnered 51% of the popular votes while BN won 47% of the popular votes on official account.
Meanwhile, in response to the calls for Pakatan-led Selangor government to appoint PKR members to positions in the state government-linked companies (GLCs), Anwar said only qualified candidates should be allowed to take the posts.
“It doesn’t matter whether those who hold positions in the state GLS are politicians or not, but most importantly they must be the qualified candidates, and they must not involve party affairs into the running of the GLCs,” he said.
