King receives credentials of six envoys to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, today received the credentials of six envoys to Malaysia, at the Istana Negara, here.

They are Abdulla Mattar Khamis Al Mazrouei of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ahmed Faouzi (Morocco), Archbishop Joseph Marino (Holy See), Qaley Ali Oglu Allahverdiyev (Azerbaijan), Judith St George (Canada) and Dr Anwar Abubaker Elfeitori (Libya).

Tuanku Abdul Halim and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, also granted an audience to the envoys. Also present were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin and Foreign Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob.

Abdulla Mattar Khamis, 52, was appointed the UAE ambassador-designate to Malaysia in April this year and made the UAE ambassador to Malaysia today.

He was previously the UAE ambassador to Yemen and Sudan.  Ahmed Faouzi, 57, of Morocco had been his country’s ambassador to the Ivory Coast from 2008 to 2012.

Archbishop Joseph Marino, 60, is the first ambassador of the Holy See to Malaysia following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Holy See. The Holy See established its embassy in Malaysia in July last year.

Qaley Ali Oglu Allahverdiyev, 63, of Azerbaijan had been a counsellor at the embassies of his country in Turkey, Indonesia and Qatar.  Judith St George, 54, the Canadian High Commissioner to Malaysia, succeeds Randolph Mank whose term of office ended on Sept 7 last year.

Dr Anwar Abubaker Elfeitori, 49, of Libya had been the minister of transport and communication of his country in 2011 and 2012.
