KUALA LUMPUR, May 28- About 10,000 employees of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would potentially have a home to call their own through affordable housing projects undertaken by their employer.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib (photo) said the initiative was in appreciation of the outstanding services provided by the employees to city dwellers which had boosted the image of DBKL.
“A housing estate comprising homes ranging from RM150,000 a unit with an area of between 1,000sq ft to 2000sq ft has already been built in Cheras.
“Priority will be given to employees who do not have a house, have not taken any housing loan, and who do not have any discipline record,” he told reporters after launching the DBKL Labour Day celebration here today.
According to him, another housing project would be implemented in Sungai Besi, which would also be open to the public who are eligible for affordable houses.
Meanwhile, Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman who attended the function urged other local authorities to emulate the initiative by DBKL in ensuring the welfare of their employees.
