KUCHING, May 28 – A Barisan Nasional (BN) state minister today praised an opposition assemblyman for accepting the 13th general election (GE13)results and even congratulated BN for its victory, which is seen as a rare gesture by an opposition leader.
Sarawak Housing Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg (photo) who praised Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) for his magnanimity when the latter spoke at the earlier part of the current state assembly sitting last week, also described Chong as an example that should be emulated by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“I would like to commend the Member for Kota Sentosa for accepting the (GE13) results. As a leader, he has shown good example by accepting the process of democracy.
“Perhaps it is not an exaggeration if he can advise not only the advisor of PKR, but his own party, DAP in Semenanjung (Malaysia), to follow what he has done,” he said when delivering his winding-up speech at today’s sitting.
Abang Johari, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president and Satok assemblyman, said the opposition should not have gone to the streets and demonstrated to object the GE13 results.
“Street demonstrations are not only futile but also disrupt our efforts in nation building. Let us be true to ourselves and be clear in our deeds,” he said.
