JUNE 6- Delhi Police created a sensation on Thursday after claiming Rajasthan Royals co-owners and couple Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty placed bets on the IPL matches in which their own team played.
Police Commissiner Neeraj Kumar said that during questioning on Wednesday, Kundra, a British national, admitted to betting through Umesh Goenka, an alleged bookie who has now become a prosecution witness.
Kundra apparently lost Rs.1 crore in betting during IPL-6.
Goenka claimed Shilpa too had placed a bet on a Rajasthan Royals-Kolkata Knight Riders match, police sources said.
In his statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, Goenka said Shilpa placed the bets through him, said police sources.
There are chances of police questioning Shilpa too.
However, Delhi Police was not planning to arrest Raj Kundra, Neeraj Kumar told Headlines Today.
He said more players were on the radar and would be questioned in coming days.
Kundra, a British national, has been barred from leaving India. Police have seized his passport.
But Shilpa told Headlines Today that they been wronged.
“All I want to say is that as RR owners, we are wronged. As RR owners, we have not done anything wrong,” she said.
