KOTA BAHARU, June 11- Pas today filed two election petitions seeking the court to declare the election for the Air Lanas and Kok Lanas state constituencies held last May 5 was void.
The petition for Air Lanas was filed by Mustapha Deris, 55, the agent for Abdullah Ya’kub, the PAS candidate for the seat, while the petition for Kok Lanas was filed by Shaberi Mohd Zin, 57, the agent for the PAS candidate who contested the seat, Nik Mahadi Nik Mahmood.
Both the petition were filed through the legal firm of Messrs. Hisham Fauzi Associates and were handed over to High Court deputy registrar Noor Haslinda Che Seman at 2pm.
In the May 5 general election, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who was the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, defeated Abdullah with a majority of 47 votes.
Mustapa also won the Jeli parliamentary seat. Nik Mahadi lost to BN’s Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad in the contest for the Kok Lanas seat.
Besides Mustapa and Md Alwi, the Election Commission and Returning Officers for Air Lanas and Kok Lanas, Abdul Manan Ali and Adnan Hussin, respectively, were also named respondents in the petitions.
Speaking to reporters latter, lawyer Hisham Fauzi said three more elections, to challenge the results for the Ketereh and Machang parliamentary seats, and the Selising state seat, would be filed tomorrow.
