JUNE 12- The Delhi Police is likely to appeal against the order granting bail to cricketers S. Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan. The two were released from Tihar jail on Tuesday after a court held on Monday that their being booked under MCOCA was prima facie unjustified.

SREESANTHBut the inve stigators feel that imposition of MCOCA was correct. Officers of the Delhi Police’s special cell are now awaiting the final bail order of the two players before proceeding further.

Talking to Mail Today, Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said: “We are waiting for bail orders and will decide our future course of action based on it.”

11sreesanthAccording to the police, they have a strong ground to impose MCOCA against the players and the bookies. A senior police official said: “As per Section 2 (I)(a) of the Act , whosoever has any communication or association with a person running a crime syndicate is liable to be booked under the Act.”

Sreesanth and Chavan were in touch with the bookies who were in touch with Dawood and his men. This makes them a part of Dawood’s crime syndicate and they are liable to be charged under MCOCA, the officer added.

Meanwhile, Sreesanth, who has been claiming his innocence from the day he was arrested by the Delhi Police, said the days spent in jail has taught him a lesson.

“The last 27 days have taught me a lot. I will surely abide by the law of the land and my innocence will be proven soon,” Sreesanth said.
