JUNE 12 -Days after a Congress convoy was ambushed in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, the party’s critically injured veteran leader V.C. Shukla (photo)breathed his last in a Gurgaon hospital on Tuesday.
According to sources in Medanta Medicity hospital, the 84-year-old former Union minister passed away in the afternoon. Doctors had earlier said that he was showing signs of improvement. More details were awaited.
Shukla was airlifted to Medanta from Raipur on May 26, a day after the brutal attack in which around 30 people, including senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma and many party workers as well as security personnel, were killed.
The heavily armed Maoists had ambushed the convoy in a dense forest in Jagdalpur district during the Congress’s Parivartan Yatra, a statewide campaign to dethrone the BJP government in the state.
