SHAH ALAM, June 28 – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said today he was against those who misinterpreted the provisions of the Federal Constitution and the Selangor State Constitution for the benefit of certain groups.
As such, he called on everyone, particularly the people of Selangor, to respect and accept all the provisions so that they could continue to enjoy the peace, harmony and prosperity prevailing in the state.
“We must always uphold the dignity of the Federal Constitution, the Selangor State Constitution and the law of the country to the highest level regardless of one’s personal and political interest,” the Ruler said at the official opening of the first term of the 13th Selangor State Assembly sitting, here today.
As the Head of the Islamic religion in Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin said the Selangor state government led by the PAS, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP coalition must give serious consideration to efforts at raising the quality of life of Muslims with emphasis placed on education and the economy.
The Sultan said: “Serious attention placed on efforts to bring progress to the Muslims had never been used as an excuse to neglect or marginalise the other races in the state.
“In fact, the progress of the Muslims as the majority group in the state had given positive impact to the state and the people.”
Sultan Sharafuddin said Selangor’s economy this year was expected to record a moderate performance with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) projected to be around 5.6 per cent annually in tandem with the moderate world economic environment.
