Certain sections of the Bill can be detrimental to non Muslims and therefore should be reconsidered and thoroughly studied added Palanivel.

Government should take heed of the serious feedback from other BN component parties & NGOs who would like to see the controversial clauses amended before being tabled in the Parliament.

The government should propose a fairer version of Bill taking into account individual rights and civil liberties, the spirit of our Constitution, basic human rights and protection of minors. The Cabinet had discussed this issue at length said Palanivel.

Finally it was referred to the Attorney-General’s chambers to come up with a fair and just proposal to handle this issue.
“There must be fair and just representation when children’s conversion to another religion is concerned.”

MIC and the public are concerned about the conversion of minors by one parent. “The government is aware and is taking into account all the views and will come up with a fair solution to the matter” Palaivel further commented.
