The competition, now in its second year, is a multi-disciplinary business talent competition open to recent graduates and final-year university students.

“There is lot of talk about unemployment among graduates. So, we decided to fill the gap by bringing them into such a competition to give them first-hand experience,” Maybank’s Head of Group Human Capital, Nora Abdul Manaf told reporters here today.

A total of 50 candidates from the 10 countries will be selected to vie for the US$72,000 prize and the chance to join Maybank’s Global Maybank Apprentice Programme (GMAP).

The GMAP is one of the bank’s graduate pipeline programmes offered to fresh graduates.

It is a personalised two-year on-the-job programme for graduates to explore and experience different functions via structured rotations.

“This includes a three-month international assignment to encourage cross-border exposure and networking among young talent. It means our apprentices can serve in any of the overseas operations in the region,” said Nora.

Selected candidates from the 10 countries will face an extensive five day challenge at the Grand Final.
