HALIMAH ‘KEEPS MUM’ ON CONTEST FOR WANITA UMNO TOP POST
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 – The Member of Parliament for Tenggara, Datuk Halimah Sadique is keeping mum on the prospect of her contesting for the post of Wanita Umno head in the party election this year.
Halimah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, when approached at the Parliament Lobby yesterday, merely indicated that ‘her lips were sealed’ to reporters several times when asked if she was contesting for the top post of the Umno wing.
“(I) don’t want to comment, no comment,” she said.
Incumbent Wanita Umno head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil recently confirmed that she intended to defend the post that she won in 2009 after beating Tan Sri Rafidfah Aziz.
Meanwhile, former Puteri Umno head, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had stated her interest in challenging Shahrizat for the post.
Halimah was appointed as a Deputy Minister after defending her Tenggara Parliamentary seat for two terms consecutively since 2008.
The former Johor Umno Wanita head began her political career in 1995 after being selected as a Barisan Nasional candidate for the Gunung Lambak state constituency in the 9th general election.
