KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 – Besut Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the Barisan Nasional (BN) is targeting 4,000 majority votes for the Kuala Besut by-election on July 24.
“The BN sentiments are still strong after the 2,434 majority votes win in the May 5 general election. Its better for PAS to just hand over the seat to BN as the majority votes we won was big, not 300.
“PAS needs about 1,200 votes to achieve the BN majority vote. Voters don’t usually change their mind after just two months,” he told reporters in the lobby of parliament here today.
Idris said the Besut voters should be proud that their MP is a member of the Cabinet adding he understands their needs.
“This is my area, just give Kuala Besut to BN after all it will be Ramadan soon, don’t bother to campaign. PAS should not contest the by-election out of respect for Ramadan,” the second education minister said jokingly.
Asked about the issue of teachers asked to vote BN, he said nobody were forced to vote for any party and as a democratic country, they were free to make their choice.
The BN candidate for Kuala Besut by-election will be announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tomorrow.
