JELI, July 15- Kelantan Umno is giving greater focus to young voters to help Barisan Nasional (BN) retain the Kuala Besut state seat in Terengganu in the by-election on July 24.
Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the state’s Umno Youth and Puteri wings were already on the ground in Kuala Besut since nomination last Friday.
“Besides the older voters, we are also focusing on the young because they make up a majority of the voters and it has been difficult to ascertain the support of young voters, as was the case in the last general election,” he told reporters after a breaking-of-the-fast and handover of contributions at the Bukit Nangka Umno Complex here last night.
Engineer Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman, 37, is defending the seat for the BN in a straight fight with businessman Endot alias Azlan Jusoh, 48, of PAS.
The seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar of the BN on June 26.
