KUALA BESUT, July 16- About 2,000 Wanita Umno members are on a caring campaign trail in Kuala Besut to meet old people and women voters.
Wanita Umno Besut division chief Engku Naemah Engku Taib said they were made up of 700 Wanita members from Terengganu and 300 from Johor, the Federal Territories, Melaka, Pahang and Kelantan.
She said they traversed through villages since Friday to meet women congregators in mosques and surau, apart from making house-to-house visits to identify voter problems, particularly on health and welfare.
The number of Wanita members on the campaign trail is expected to swell with the presence of Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in Kuala Besut on Saturday or the Barisan Nasional (BN) in a by-election here, Engku Naemah told Bernama here.
“Although, it’s tiring to campaign from 9 am to midnight, we are in high spirit as were are glad to be able to work together with Wanita Umno members from other states to ensure BN candidate Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman’s victory.
“We will do our best to solve the problems brought up by old people and women in Kuala Besut soonest to ensure that they are happy with the services provided by the government through Umno’s assistance,” she said.
Tengku Zaihan, 37, a civil engineer with the Drainage and Irrigation Department, is pitted against PAS’ Endot alias Azlan Yusof, 48, a contractor, in the July 24 by-election.
Meanwhile, Perak BN will adopt a continuous communication approach and identify voters who gave lukewarm response to the BN in the 13th general election in the Kuala Besut state by-election campaign.
“We want people to vote us. So if you do not know them, of course, it is quite difficult for us to shed light on the BN agenda,” said Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Zambry, who is also Perak menteri besar, said Perak BN campaigners would reach voters by extending friendship and not by ranting and shouting.
He was speaking to reporters after meeting residents of Kampung Lampu and Kampung Nangka here tonight.
