Iran Invites Najib For Swearing-in Of New President

NAJIB 2PUTRAJAYA, July 24- Iran has invited Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to attend the swearing-in of its new president, Hassan Rouhani (photo).

Iran’s special envoy Syed Rasoul Muhajar handed over the official invitation, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Syed Rasoul and the Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Jalal Firouznia called on Ahmad Zahid at his office here Tuesday.

Ahmad Zahid said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman would represent the prime minister at the event, the date of which would be determined by the Iran government later.

Hassan RouhaniHe said the Iranian delegation also discussed the welfare of Iranian students in Malaysia and their family members who had accompanied them to the country.

Syed Rasoul said the discussions also touched on how to simplify immigration checks, facilitate foreign visitor processing for both countries and how to resolve other difficulties pertaining to immigration procedures.

“Apart from discussing the welfare of Iranians in Malaysia and immigration issues, we also agreed on establishing an agreement on prisoner swap which will be finalised later,” he said.

Syed Rasoul said he was confident that both nations would continue to build a good relationship in cultural exchange and other sectors in the future.
