PETALING JAYA, JULY 29- After six weeks in hiding, the police inspector implicated in the murder of N Dhamendran while in custody, surrendered to the police.
Inspector S Hare Krishna surrendered at 10 this morning at the Bukit Aman police headquarters. IGP Khalid Abu Bakar in confirming this said Hare Krishnan would be charged for the offence tomorrow.
He was later taken to the Dang Wangi police station for further questioning.
Dhamendran, 31, was found dead in the lock-up 16 days after he was arrested on May 5 over an alleged offence involving the use of firearms.
Police initially claimed that the victim died of breathing difficulties but a post-mortem revealed he suffered 52 injuries.
Three policemen, Sergeant Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Corporal Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman, 45, and Corporal Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32, were charged under section 302 of the penal code on June 5.
No plea was recorded from the three.
Hare Krishna will most likely face the same charge which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
