KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 – The case of four policemen, including an inspector, charged with murdering lock-up detainee N. Dharmenderan, has been transferred from the Magistrate’s Court to the High Court.
Magistrate Nur A’minahtul Mardiah Md Nor allowed the transfer following an application by deputy public prosecutor S. Nithia.
Hare Krishnan, 40, from Sungai Petani Kedah, together with three others, Sergeant Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Corporal Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman, 45, and Corporal Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32, are charged with committing the offence at the D9 investigation office, 7th Floor, Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, Jalan Hang Tuah here between 12.20pm and 2.50pm on May 21 this year.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
The defence is led by lawyer Datuk Hazman Ahmad, while lawyer Michelle Yesudas is holding a watching brief for Dharmenderan’s widow.
