PETALING JAYA, Aug 6- The health ministry would continue to monitor local and imported dairy products for bacteria contamination, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam.

He said the ministry would alert the public should there be any development by New Zealand following its recall of more than 1,000 tonnes of dairy products from seven countries including Malaysia.

SUBRA“This is a continuous monitoring process. At present, those brands under Danone Dumex Malaysia have been withdrawn and we are still monitoring the rest and we will recall any products should the need arise,” he told reporters after launching the Malaysia Pledge On Responsible Advertising To Children campaign, here, yesterday.

Yesterday, Danone Dumex (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Danone Dumex) recalled its infant formula products, Dumex Dupro, Mamex Cherish, Mamex Explore and Bebelac as a precautionary measure for consumers.

Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism minister Datuk Hasan Malek said consumers who were unhappy with the recall of the dairy products could resort to the Malaysian Consumer Claims Tribunal to seek redress.

“Our country has laws and consumers also have the right to voice their grouses to the tribunal,” he told reporters at a breaking of fast organised by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad yesterday.
