AUG 6- Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar debuted in the Rajya Sabha today. The cricket icon walked in with Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla, who is also the BCCI vice-president.
Unfortunately for Sachin, the Upper House was adjourned post 3 pm amid uproar over the statehood demands for Telangana and Bodoland.
But for a brief while, he was in familiar territory — the cynosure of all eyes. In a blue striped shirt and black trousers, this was Sachin’s first day in the Rajya Sabha.
Tendulkar had been nominated to the Rajya Sabha in April last year along with Bollywood actor Rekha and businesswoman Anu Aga. Sachin Tendulkar shook hands with some MPs before taking his seat. He sat next to noted lyricist Javed Akhtar and had an animated chat with him.
His wife Anjali watched from the visitors’ gallery. Tendulkar thumped the desk when RS Chairman Hamid Ansari congratulated the Indian cricket team for winning the Champions Trophy.
Several MPs made a beeline to shake hands with him during disruptions in proceedings. Tendulkar also went up to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and shook hands with him.
