KOLKATA (West Bengal) Aug 27 – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday paid tribute to Mother Teresa on her 103rd birth anniversary at the state secretariat, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
“In today’s world, when we see so much of suffering, we must resolve to rededicate ourselves to the ideals of Mother Theresa to wipe out tears and embrace the suffering souls with love and warmth,” said Banerjee.
“Mother Theresa was the apostle of peace, brotherhood and service to humanity, particularly the uncared for and the poorest of the poor. Her life and her works epitomise selfless service to the suffering millions,” he said.
Banerjee later hung a photo garland of Mother Theresa at the Writers’ Buildings here.
Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity Sister Prema, nuns and children were also present on the occasion.
Mother Teresa was born on Aug 26, 1910 and died on Sept 5, 1997.
She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries.
