KULIM, Aug 31- Panasonic Energy Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PECMY), a solar manufacturing company, plans to enter the European and United States markets, as currently their products are mainly for the Japanese market.
Its Managing Director Yasuyoshi Kawanishi said the company also believes they can penetrate the Malaysia market.
He said currently, 99 per cent of products from PECMY’s manufacturing factory here are for the Japanese market where the demand for solar panels is very high.
“Now we focus only on Japan. In the near future we plan to export to Europe, the United States and the domestic market, Malaysia. The European market we expect very soon, by this year.
“However, we will ship to Japan first. The Japan market is very blooming, the demand is there, it’s a priority,” he told reporters after the grand opening ceremony of PECMY and commemoration on the achievement of 300 MW capacity of solar panels.
The event at Kulim Hi-Tech Park here Friday was officiated by Kedah State Executive Councillor for Industry and Investment Datuk Ku Rahman Ku Ismail.
Panasonic established the new factory in Malaysia in December 2011, started construction in March 2012 and began production in December 2012. Today, PECMY has reached full-scale mass production.
With an annual production capacity of 300 MW, the factory in Kulim Hi-Tech Park will manufacture HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin-layer) solar modules, bringing Panasonic’s overall annual production to 900 MW.
“Today, Panasonic’s first fully-integrated solar manufacturing facility, producing wafers, solar cells and modules, has reached full-scale production. This robust production site will enhance the solar business not only in the Japanese market, where demand is brisk, but also the global market including the Asean region,” he said.
The Panasonic HIT solar modules offer top-class solar cell conversion efficiency of 22 per cent.
Panasonic has invested RM1.84 billion in the fully-integrated solar manufacturing plant here.
