TEMERLOH, Sept 2- The younger generation has been urged to nurture the spirit of patriotism and love for the country through the ‘love thy country’ programmes.
The prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said such programmes should tailor to the tastes and needs of young people.
“Only then, we can instil patriotism among the new generation. It is my fervent wish that we do not become too obsessed with ideology as it could destroy the country.
“Analyse and evaluate any matter before resorting to any action,” she said at an Aidilfitri open house hosted by the Temerloh Umno division and presenting ‘ihram’ cloth to 55 haj pilgrims at Datuk Bahaman Square, Lanchang near here, Sunday.
Rosmah said patriotic programmes for the younger generation were important as many young people were still ill-informed and could not appreciate the true meaning of independence.
“The pre-independence generation, who lived during colonialism, endured hardship as there had no freedom then and faced many obstacles.
“However, they have a strong sense of patriotism as they fought for the independence. On the other hand, some people in the post-independence era forgot history and the benefits reaped from blood, sweat and tears of our founding fathers,” she said.
On Aidilfitri, she said the celebration became more meaningful this time around as it was celebrated during the month of independence.
She said hence, the people should remain united and count the blessings of peace bestowed upon them.
