NEW DELHI, Sept 5 – Palace on Wheels, a new luxury train for tourists, chugged out of Safdarjung station in India’s capital city on its first journey of the season with 34 passengers.
The train will travel to the cities of Jaipur, Sawaimadhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra before returning to the capital on a seven-day journey, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
The air-conditioned train consists of 23 coaches and has 14 saloons, a spa, two Indian restaurants and a reception-cum-bar.
The train takes tourists across mountains, rivers, forests and sand dunes on its one week journey.
From September to April next year, the train will make a total of 34 trips and is expected to carry about 3,000 passengers.
The train is a joint venture of the Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC).
