KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10- Umno Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has reminded party members not to mock the new party regulations or use the election avenue to test one’s popularity.
He told them to adhere to the new regulations to safeguard Umno’s image.
“I am advising party members not to tarnish the party. The new regulations provide opportunities for anyone to contest but do not make a mockery out of the privilege.
“Let’s look at ourselves before putting in one’s candidacy to contest,” he told reporters after opening the Cruyff Court futsal pitch at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Sports Club, Brickfields here Monday.
The pitch was built with the cooperation of Khazanah Nasional and Johan Cruyff Foundation, which was established by the famous Dutch football player Johan Cruyff to encourage the sports among the younger generation.
Tengku Adnan, who is also federal territories minister, said Umno branch meetings were expected to be conducted until the middle of this month before the divisions started holding theirs early next month.
He also criticised the opposition and the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) for harping on the injustices of the general election.
The Putrajaya member of parliament said Umno had carried out post-election studies and found a house address with 19 opposition voters.
On another street, I found the address of a house with voters supporting the opposition but the road does not have a single building,” he said.
