KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13- The Registrar of Societies (ROS) until two days ago has yet to receive the 500 original letters by DAP delegates confirming their absence during the party’s elections on Dec 15 last year.
Its director-general, Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman said the letters should be submitted soonest to enable ROS to conduct investigations into complaints from DAP members who had sought a re-election.
He said DAP leaders refusal to submit the letters showed that they were not keen to resolve the issue and this could worsen the situation.
“The letter touted by DAP leaders that it had delivered by hand recently was merely a letter of conformity to comply with ROS’ decision (to hold a central executive committee (CEC) re-election) as stated in ROS’ letter dated July 30.
“Anyway, ROS has yet to get an official notification of the re-election,” he said in a statement Thursday.
Abdul Rahman said ROS had reminded DAP leaders in a letter to carry out its instruction in line with the DAP Constitution to avoid the crisis from escalating.
On July 30, ROS ordered DAP to hold new CEC elections, saying that it was not satisfied with the “technical glitch” explanation given following allegations of ballot manipulation involving 547 delegates.
On Aug 19, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke claimed that more than 500 DAP delegates had submitted letters to the party’s headquarters, admitting that they had received notice for the meeting but could not be present during the party’s CEC election.
DAP initially objected to ROS’ directive but eventually relented and agreed to conduct fresh polls.
