KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 – Incumbent Khairy Jamaluddin will most likely be challenged for the Umno Youth chief’s post in the party elections next month.
Razman Hakimi Abdullah, former head of the corporate communications unit of a ministry said today, he may challenge Khairy for the Umno Youth hot seat.
However, blogger Razman told Bernama he would only contest if Akhramsyah Sanusi Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah decides to drop out.
Akhramsyah is the son of Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, the former agriculture minister and former Umno secretary-general.
“I wait for Akhramsyah’s announcement. If he does not contest, I will announce my intention to contest on Facebook and social sites. I have to wait for Akhramsyah as he is a senior and I respect him.
“We share the same principles in Umno Youth. Should he decide to contest, I will help his campaign at the grassroots level,” said Razman, a member of Umno Youth Media Unit during the Manek Urai state by-election in Kelantan in 2009.

When contacted today, the Bendang Baru Umno branch member in Langkawi division said he will make the official announcement in a day or two.
Akhramsyah said he has to make thorough preparation mentally and physically before holding a press conference to make official announcement.
When asked for his comments on the impending challenge, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy who has held the post since 2009 declined to comment.
In the 2009 elections, Khairy received 304 votes to win the Umno Youth chief’s post in a tight three-cornered fight.
He defeated Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo (254 votes ) and Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir ( 232 votes).
Candidates contesting for Umno Youth top posts have to submit the nomination forms on Saturday. The Umno Youth elections will be held on October 12.
