hishamudin KDNPUTRAJAYA, Sept 19- The fine for the Automated Enforcement System (AES) has been set at RM150 instead of RM300 and will be presented to the cabinet for approval, acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said today.

However, offenders would incur a maximum of RM300 if the summons was settled late and the recorded speed limit was very high, he said.

“As for the unsettled AES summons so far, the Performance Management & Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) has agreed that the issue be raised at the cabinet as well,” he said after chairing the Unit’s committee meeting on AES at the Ministry of Transport here Wednesday.

Also present were Minister in Prime Minister’s Department and PEMANDU chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala and Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.

The AES legal, finance and operations sub-committees presented their reports to Hishammuddin at the meeting.

Hishammuddin also informed that the attorney-general had suspended the enforcement of the AES until further notice.

He said the enforcement date will be announced later and a wholly owned government company AES Solutions Sdn Bhd would take over its management from the previous companies, ATES Sdn Bhd and Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd.

AESThe take over would be handled by an independent audit firm to ensure transparency and fairness, he added.

He said the police would manage the enforcement, operations and issuing of summons while the Road Transport Department would be responsible for the demerit system which enabled the suspension of drivers licence for failure to settle fines or for multiple offences.

The police have also agreed to place warning signs as required by the Road Transport Act 1987 at all camera speed trap locations starting today, he added.

He said the AES was meant for the safety of all road users and its main aim was to reduce the rate of accidents due to speeding.
