PEKAN, Sept 21 – Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak retained his Pekan Umno division head’s post when there was no challenger for the post at the close of nominations for the party elections next month.
The Prime Minister, who has held the division head’s post since 1982, was not challenged when the nomination of candidates at the divisional level closed at 5pm Saturday.
Najib’s nomination forms for the post of Pekan Umno division head was earlier handed in by his representative, Pekan Umno division secretary Datuk Zainal Abidin Pa’ Wan, at the Pekan Umno Building, here at 10 this morning.
It was handed over to the Pahang Umno Special Election Committee chairman, Datuk Seri Abdul Jabbar Ibrahim.
Abdul Jabbar, when contacted by Bernama, said out of the 14 Umno divisions in Pahang, nine divisions would see contests for the post of division head.
The nine divisions are Kuantan, Maran, Jerantut, Raub, Paya Besar, Indera Mahkota, Bera, Kuala Krau and Cameron Highlands.
The five divisions which will not see any contest for the post of division head are Temerloh, Bentong, Lipis, Rompin and Pekan.
In BENTONG, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob retained the division head’s post when there was no challenger for the post.
Adnan, who is also the Pahang Umno Liaison chairman, has held the post of Bentong Umno head since 1985.
Meanwhile in BERA, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who has held the post of Bera division head since 2004, was being challenged by his former political secretary, Datuk Mohd Azizan Che Omar for the division head’s post.
Mohd Azizan, who has held the post of Bera Umno Youth head for two terms since 2004, was also the former political secretary to Ismail Sabri when he was the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister for one term.
In ROMPIN, a former cabinet minister, Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis also retained his post as the Rompin Umno division head when there was no challenger at the close of nominations.
