KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24- The proposal to increase the Commercial Investigation Department (CID) personnel is not practical as the responsibility to combat crime is also under the ambit of police personnel in charge of general duties, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Monday.
The departments which cover general duties are the Management (involving the Inspector-General and Police Chiefs), Internal Security/Public Order, and Crime Prevention, he said.
“The number of personnel at a state or district CID will only be increased if there’s a significant rise in cases and the investigating officers are unable to cope,” he responded to a question from Lim Guan Eng (Bagan-DAP) during the Dewan Rakyat session here.
Lim had queried as to why the criminal investigation officers had not been increased by 50 percent in efforts to curb crime.
Zahid also noted that the government had approved 4,000 new police posts since last year to 2015 to strengthen the force.
