PETALING JAYA, Sept 30- Forty-nine candidates are vying for the 20 seats in DAP’s Central Executive Council (CEC) in its re-election for the posts at a Special Congress of the party here Sunday.
The re-election follows an order from the Registrar of Societies after finding irregularities in the original polls held on Dec 15 last year.
DAP’s elections strategy director Dr Ong Kian Ming announced that the number of candidates this time around dropped by 19 as compared to 68 candidates during the DAP National Congress last December, when the polls were first held.
He said 17 withdrew while two had quit the party.
He added that 2,576 delegates from 985 branches would be casting their votes and that the results were expected to be known later this afternoon.
