New Delhi, October 24- Legendary playback singer Manna Dey passed away early on Thursday at a private hospital in Bangalore He was 94.
Dey who was under treatment for the last four months breathed his last around 4 a.m.
The veteran singer was suffering from respiratory and renal problems.
Born in Kolkata, the Dadasaheb Phalke awardee was staying in Bangalore after spending more than 50 years in Mumbai.
Dey, who started his playback career with 1943 film ‘Tamanna’, has sung nearly 3,500 songs in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Assamese films. He had sung over 3,500 songs in Hindi, Bengali and other regional languages.
His hit numbers include songs like ‘Puchho na kaise’, ‘aye meri zoharajabi’, ‘Laga chunri mein daag’ and ‘Pyaar hua ikrar hua’.
