Search Operations For Flood Victim Continue This Morning

Cameron Highlands, Oct 24 – The search and rescue operation for an Indonesian woman believed to have been swept away by strong current following the mud flood tragedy in Sungai Bertam, Ringlet, here continued at 8.30 this morning.

The operation, led by Cameron Highlands OCPD DSP Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, involved 328 personnel from the police, fire and rescue department, armed forces, Civil Defence Department and Rela.

“The manpower will increase because the search and rescue operation is carried out in shifts,” he said when met by Bernama.

The operations area had been extended to eight kilometres from the spot where the victim had been swept off to the lower part of the river.

The weather was cloudy with light rain in the morning. The mud flood in Lembah Bertam at about 1am yesterday was caused by the release of water from the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam which resulted in the death of three people, while one was reported missing and another injured with 80 houses and about 100 vehicles destroyed.
