Beijing, Oct 29 – Construction of six new subway lines in Beijing is expected to start by the end of this year to help ease traffic in the Chinese capital, Xinhua news agency reported.
The six lines measuring more than 90km include downtown lines and lines linking suburban areas with the downtown, the city’s Subway Construction Management Company said Tuesday.
The new lines are expected to be operational by the end of 2016.
At present, there are 17 subway lines in Beijing with a total length of 456km.
The city’s subway lines transport some 10 million passengers every day on working days.
