Chennai, Nov 15 – The Indian Navy is planning to enhance its warship fleet from the current 136 to 200 in the next 10 years, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
A senior official said three aircraft carriers will be part of the new additions and orders have been made.
Rear Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Naval Command said this week that the INS Vikramaditya which India purchased from Russia would be inducted into the Navy later this month.
“INS Vikramaditya will be under the control of INS Karwar in Karnataka. Another aircraft carrier is in the making in Kochi now. Once it is commissioned, we will position it in Visakhapatnam,” he said.
The Navy will engage with the Japanese Coast Guard for a joint military exercise next month off the eastern coast.
