George Town, Dec 16 – A policeman who slapped a foreigner for failing to produce his identification document has been transferred out, Penang chief police officer Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said Monday.
He said in a statement that the police would not tolerate any of its officers or men who commit offences to the extent of smearing the name and image of the force.
The alleged incident, said to have occurred in front of a private clinic in Bayan Baru, was recorded on video and widely circulated on the Facebook and YouTube websites from last Friday.
Two days after the video clip was uploaded onto the Internet, it drew criticism from the people.
Abdul Rahim said strict orders had been issued to all heads of department, OCPDs and heads of formation to ensure that all officers and men under their supervision always adhered to guidelines in discharging their duty.
