Kuala Lumpur, Jan 21 – Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia, has officially rolled out the first locally-assembled Mitsubishi ASX.
The company said the Mitsubishi ASX, a mid-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV), is contract assembled at the Segambut plant of Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd, with an initial production volume of 5,000 units annually.
In a statement Tuesday, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Tetsuya Oda said all cars produced by the company worldwide were governed by the same high standards that ensure consistent quality.
“The model that is locally assembled here will have the same quality level with others that are made in Japan,” he said.
The price starts from RM114,743.50 for the two-wheel drive variant while the four-wheel drive is priced at RM128,879.50, both for on-the-road (OTR) price without insurance.
The SUVs are available in four colours – Black Mica, Titanium Grey, Cool Silver and Solid White.
Before the completely-knocked-down introduction, the fully-imported two-wheel drive ASX from Japan is priced at RM139,981.50 OTR without insurance, and since the model’s launch in November 2010, close to 3,000 units have been sold.
Oda said with the attractive pricing and generous equipment, the company had targeted to sell 400 units per month, and aiming for a 20 per cent market share of the mid-sized SUV segment.
