Chennai, Feb 4- With AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu CM announcing her alliance with the CPI (M) for on Monday, the stage is all set for the Lok Sabha polls slated to be held in the beginning of the second quarter of the year.

The pre-poll alliance between AIADMK and CPI (M) was announced following a meeting between J. Jayalalithaa and Prakash Karat on Monday.

While announcing the pact, the Tamil Nadu CM said, “We expect this alliance will be very successful.”

Sources say CPI and CPI (M) who have remained in alliance with AIADMK since 2009 general elections and continued in 2011 Assembly elections as well are likely to win four seats in the state.

Hoping a support for her PM ambitions from the Left front, Jayalalithaa had played a crucial role in paving way for D Raja’s Rajya Sabha.

AIADMK cadres had already been touting Jayalalithaa as the next PM and have even resolved in their general council to make her, a Tamilian, the next PM.

Jayalalithaa had also hinted out that she will take the train from “St George to Red Fort.”

Jaya’s pre-poll alliance announcement with the Left is seen as an attempt to garner secular votes in the coming general elections. Jayalalithaa, who shares a good rapport with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and had hailed him as a good friend and an able administrator, had maintained a stoic silence ever since the announcement of Modi as the BJP’s PM candidature.

Political analysts say Jayalalithaa is hoping that if Congress and BJP don’t manage numbers, then she would pitch herself as the PM candidate. But for now, the Tamil Nadu CM has chosen not to talk about the PM ambitions as Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati could also throw their hats into the ring. Also Jayalalithaa wants to keep post-poll options open.

When a reporter on Monday asked about BJP and Modi, she chose not to comment.

“I would like to make one thing clear to all mediapersons. This is not the time for anyone to discuss and decided who will be the next PM. It is pointless for any political party to enter into such discussions now,” Jayalalithaa said while replying to a question on her PM ambitions.

Not just AIADMK, but almost all the alliances have taken shape in Tamil Nadu which has thirty nine Lok Sabha seats. According to sources, actor turned politician Vijayakanth’s DMDK has decided to enter into a tie up with BJP which already has MDMK in its kitty and trying for PMK. While DMK was trying to woo DMDK, the family rift in DMK went against it.

Karunanidhi’s elder son Alagiri had lashed out at DMDK when the talks were on. Soon DMK suspended him in a desperate move to impress DMDK which has ten per cent vote share in Tamil Nadu. However, DMDK which hopes to emerge as an alternative in Tamil Nadu, has ruled out alliance with the DMK. They even conducted an anti-corruption conference in Villupuram on Sunday to lash out at DMK and AIADMK.

DMK which has eighteen sitting MPs is on alliance with VCK, IUML and Puthiya Thamizhagam.

Congress would be left to fight alone in the forthcoming general elections.
