Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir makes a speech during a session at the World Leaders Forum for commemorating the 60th anniversary of South Korea at a hotel in SeoulPUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today he felt that the voters of the Kajang state constituency are bored with the political games of PKR which had forced the by-election there, though it was not legally wrong.

He also said that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, whom the party has named as its candidate for the by-election, did not respect the law because he continued to talk about his court case in his political ‘ceramah’ (talks).

“A person who does not respect the law has no right to be a leader. Leaders must be people who abide by the laws and regulations.

“Only then will the country be peaceful. The country will be destroyed if we have as a leader someone who does not respect the law,” he said.

The Election Commission (EC) has announced March 11 and nomination day and March 23 as polling day for the by-election, necessitated by the sudden resignation of PKR assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh on Jan 27.

Mahathir has been constant in his criticism against Anwar, his former deputy who he had sacked in 1998.

Kok’s video needless

Mahathir also touched on DAP MP Teresa Kok’s ‘Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014′ video clip which he said did not contribute to harmony among the communities or peace in the country.

He said he did not understand the need to have such a video clip produced.

He added that politicians had to endure all criticism hurled at them, so long as the criticism was within the law.

“This is because the government is said to be more liberal now. This is the effect of the freedom; we have to accept (the criticism) because we chose to have the freedom,” he said.

The video clip, which went viral on YouTube, has Kok allegedly making satirical statements about the government and on matters such as the security issue in Sabah.
