SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 — Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party president Datuk R.S.Thanenthiran (pic) today advised the people, especially Penangites, not to fall for the opposition’s twisting of facts about the 1Malaysia Chinese New Year (CNY) open house hosted by Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) on Monday.
He said the claim made by DAP that there was unfavourable and poor public response when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak asked the crowd whether they were ready for BN was an attempt to seek cheap publicity and create confusion among the people.
“I witnessed the open house and I can clearly say that only a minority or not even five per cent said ‘no’ when Najib asked the question (whether they were ready for BN) while the rest said ‘yes’. “I believe certain quarters had sabotaged the open house just to get cheap
political mileage. The opposition is devoid of ideas and only playing on public sentiments by
raising unnecessary issues,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
Thanenthiran was asked to comment on the statement by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in a news portal yesterday that Najib should have expected a ‘No’ response when he asked them if they were ready for BN in the midst of his speech at the BN Chinese New Year open house.
Thanenthiran said as a Chinese himself, Lim should not politicise the open house as it was seen as belittling his own community. “He (Lim) was not present at the open house and how could he make baseless allegations about the event?” he asked.
He claimed that there were close to 100,000 people at the open house compared to 30,000 as alleged by certain quarters.
Thanenthiran said Najib was well received by the public when he had a walkabout at several places in Penang recently.
