waythamoorthyKuala Lumpur, Feb 27 – Hindraf leader P.Waythamoorthy has called on MIC to quit the BN coalition. “HINDRAF calls upon the MIC to leave the BN coalition to prove its sincerity towards the Indian community. The MIC founding leaders like John Thivy, Budh Singh, Devasar and Ramanathan would be proud of its current leadership should they take such bold a step” said Waythamoorthy in a statement today.

“MIC’s early struggle was for the protection of rights of the downtrodden Malaysian Indians who were three quarter plantation workers then. “ he further said.

“Since my resignation, BN has falsely propagated than a sum of 500 million has been dispersed to the Indians over the last 5 years. For a start this “so called development effort” is peanuts for 56 years of marginalised community. On the other hand even if it is true, the 500 million never reached the community” lambasted Waytha.

“HINDRAF challenges the Government to prove how the said amount of 500 million was spent. Ministers like Khairi and Hishamuddin claims the Government has done a lot through the various Ministries. HINDRAF is of the view the various Ministries have failed to deliver to the Indian community as the entrenched system does not work in favour of the minority communities. The education Ministry has failed to disburse scholarships and places in Universities and matriculation on a fair basis and thousands of deserving students are denied their educational rights. The Welfare ministry finds the flimsiest reason to reject poor Indians’ applications for welfare aid. The Health Ministry and the MMC deliberately de-recognises the CSMU which is an affordable medical college to the poor Indians and there are thousands of other unrecognised medical degree holders in Malaysia. The Agriculture, Housing and Human resources Ministry have failed to provide alternative agriculture ventures, job training opportunities, alternative land and houses nor adequate compensation for the 800,000 displaced plantation workers since 1970’s.  This caused the new urban underclass and rise in crime amongst Indians” claimed Waythamoorthy.

He also said “The list of human rights violation goes on but MIC, the supposedly Indian representative in the Government has failed in its role. All it does is short changes the community and act as a propaganda mouthpiece for the government in sidelining from the real and grave issues affecting the minority Indian community.  All we hear from MIC is the Government is doing this and that and press statements in the Tamil media. But beyond that nothing concrete is done to find permanent and comprehensive solutions to the long standing problems faced by the Indian community.”

“HINDRAF urges The MIC to leave the BN coalition if it wants to stop the continuing the downslide of the Indian poor, if it wants to stop the continuing deception of the Indian poor into believing  that the BN government will address their unique problems.  Do it with a sense of dignity and honour, not as political slaves to the “tuans” as you are doing now” concluded Waythamoorthy in his statement.
