SHAH ALAM, March 1 — Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim announced yesterday he will be contesting the post of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president at the party elections this May. However, he said, preparations to contest the post will only be made after the Kajang state assembly seat by-election next month.
“I will contest for the post of deputy president. But there are no preparations for it now because as director of the election machinery, I have to focus on Kajang first, the contest (I will think) later,” he said in his speech at a dinner function with PKR division members at his residence tonight.
Abdul Khalid made the announcement in response to the rumour that he would be contesting the number two PKR post which was now held by Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Relations between Abdul Khalid and Mohamed Azmin had been reported to be “not too friendly” after Azmin frequently criticised the state government on several issues.
In the latest case, Azmin lambasted the state government’s decision to increase the monthly salary and allowance of the Menteri Besar and the State Exco members as being too high.
